our youth, our pride

The Iteka Youth Organisation was officially registered as an incorporation on the 30th of July 2021. The Kirundi word "Iteka" can be translated into the English word "pride". Pride is a key value in the Iteka Youth Organisation because it illustrates the honour a person can feel from connecting with their background. Pride is also the result of feeling empowered and empowering those around you. Therefore, at Iteka Youth we strive to bring pride to ourselves, our elders and ultimately our beloved homeland of Burundi. Through the empowerment of youth and the celebration of Burundian culture we hope to nurture a legacy of Burundian culture and excellence that will be passed on to future generations.

Our mission

To rewrite the narrative of young African Australian Youth that is portrayed by the media through arts, culture and engagement with the wider community. To strengthen the relationship between Burundian elders and the youth by celebrating Burundian culture, and in doing so impart a sense of Burundian pride to future generations. Finally, to promote the overall development of our homeland through youth empowerment.
